Amanda Brugel

Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member in Season 1 of the show, and not seen much. Since then, she has been a part of the cast ever since. In discussing her character, as well as any parallels to her real life, beyond the screens She was able discuss her own experiences of discrimination based on race to those who are "Marthas" saying for instance, "I use it, not just in her role in the household as Martha. Martha and I do very heavily lean towards race and, like I mentioned earlier about the experiences of my past where it feels like I've been treated as a slave in situations just because of my race. My race has never caused me to be physically hurt during my lifetime, but verbal abuse is something I've had to endure. Any sort of racial slurs that feel like a physical hit or a blow to me, I can use on the set when someone speaks of something as tough and painful. Like I hit the character in every scene.
