DanicaDanica Sue Patrick, an American ex-professional racer. She is the most accomplished woman in American open-wheel car racing time. Her victory in the Indy Japan 300 was her first triumph. In 1998, she quit high school and moved to England to pursue her career. Patrick was a competitor in Formula Vauxhall before moving to the United States in 2001 because of a lack in funding. She took part in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in 2002 for Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick competed in the Toyota Atlantic Series the following two years. She was third in championship standings in the 2004 season. During this time, she became the first woman to secure a place in the series. She was named the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She continued to improve by joining Rahal Letterman Racing (2006) as well as Andretti Green Racing (2007). In 2008, Patrick followed up her Japan win to finish at sixth place overall in the overall drivers' standings. Her performance improved to finish fifth in standings for drivers the following season. This was her most impressive performance at the Indianapolis 500 and a career-high for Patrick. Patrick's overall form dropped during the year, but she did manage to finish second at the oval track. Then she quit IndyCar in the year 2011 to pursue stock car racing full time.
